Digital Aquatics News Update
Posted: 4/14/2010
Digital Aquatics is excited to announce the imminent release of our myReef ReefKeeper management software package for the PC. This new software package will allow PC users to interact with their ReefKeeper in many new and powerful ways. From easy programming of the system to system updates, myReef makes things easy. myReef is the culmination of 8 months of hard work that was based on a long list of customer requests and it’s finally here. myReef 2.0 is compatible with the RKE and RKL systems running firmware version 2.0 or higher. See below for complete system requirements.

Now in private beta testing myReef will enter into the public beta stage here in a couple weeks. It will be on our site for download for any customer that wishes to participate in the public beta.

Among the long list of myReef features there are a few big ones that we wanted to highlight.
Stay organized with the ability to name systems, modules, probes, and channels. No more hunting and sorting through the long list of channels and probes to find what you’re looking for. Simply name and organize your system as you want to. This new naming feature will also show up on your ReefKeeper head unit as you’re looking though your system. So whether you’re using myReef or the head unit, your naming will be displayed.
You read it right… myReef will be able to actively mange multiple systems at once and allow users to quickly jump between systems to monitor parameters and do analytic comparisons all from a single application. This feature is key for those that have multiple controllers on a number of tanks such as a main tank, frag tank, and quarantine tank. This high end feature is ideal for grow out facilities, larger home fragging or breading systems, as well as store tank management. So whether your have one tank or two myReef has you taken care of!
While we’ve worked hard to make the line of ReefKeepers as easy to program as possible, there’s always a better way. When you have the option of using a computer and mouse to program the system it’s quicker and more intuitive. We’ve taken advantage of this with the new myReef 2.0 and have given you multiple programming options, new functions, quick access to outputs and probes to streamline your daily interactions with your ReefKeeper.
Based on customer feedback we’re making the updating even more clear. myReef will walk you though the updating process with instructions and images to make sure you get it right. At every step, it will check to make sure you’re completing the proper steps to insure a successful update. But that’s not all, myReef takes one step further and will make sure you’re alerted when an update is available! Making sure you’re always running the latest code has never been easier!
For customers that like to record and review data over a long period of time myReef is the idea way to track your tank. myReef logs all inputs and output in one minute resolution so there’s no need to configure the system. And the graphs are available at the click of a button! We’ve also implemented comparison graphing so that you can take up to four logs and view them on the same screen. This gives you even more options for data tracking!
Support - Perhaps one of the biggest features of myReef is the support and updates feature set. When myReef is in use you will be able to generate emails to the DA support that will compile all the needed data from your system. This will help reduce the back and forth on support emails and help our support staff get a better look at what’s going on in your system. With this new level of integrated support customers will be able to get faster response times and fewer back and forth emails. Getting all the information about a problem often leads to quick answers and happy customers and myReef will make that easier than ever!
Hardware, Livestock and Tank Management - Another great feature of myReef is its ability to help manage your livestock hardware and tanks. You’ll be able to get alerts on bulb life, track probe usage, as well as power consumption on pumps and more. Link your hardware to your ReefKeeper and expand your ability to track and monitor the equipment usage. Use the tank and livestock features to make important notes and track events in your system.

The ReefKeeper is getting an update! Both the ReefKeeper Elite and ReefKeeper Lite are getting the new 2.0 firmware. 2.0 will usher in a number of new features and capabilities for both systems including the ability to interact with the myReef software, but that’s only the beginning!

The long list of features and improvements spans the entire system, starting with the PC4 you’ll have default states for channels, and going clear to the head unit, you’ll have new levels of system integration, greatly improved menu flow and more status icons (RKE). We’ve worked hard to make 2.0 the most intuitive ReefKeeper firmware to date!

Firmware 2.0 is currently in private beta along with myReef and will be going to public beta at the same time as myReef in a few weeks.

From the top down we’ve looked at the menu structure and way to improve it for both ReefKeeper systems. Both systems have fewer key presses to get to popular system features like standby, overrides, and programming. The menu system on the RKE also has a number of cosmetic improvements to make navigation more clear and readable.
Also new in 2.0 is our new Storm and Seasonal modes. While these two features will be expanding over the next few months with the introduction of new modules, this is just another step forward with the ReefKeeper systems. Storm mode will allow you to integrate your advanced pumps and lighting to simulate inclement conditions in your tank. This will truly simulate more natural conditions that may be experienced by your reef in both lighting and water flow.

2.0 offer a number of new programming options. From our ReadyFit functions to default states for your outlets, you have more control and more redundancies than ever before. Default states for outlets will put the channel into a backup mode in the event communication is lost between the head unit and the power strip. This will greatly improve performance when the unexpected happens! ReadyFit functions also make programming a breeze! By pre-configuring many popular options you’ll be able to setup the new 2.0 in record time and with a better understanding of what your controller will do for you.

On the RKE there are more icons and information that is accessible on the home screen as well as active reporting of current activity in the system. That’s on top of the new and improved smother fonts.

On top of all this you’ll get expanded features in the NET module also. Now, you’ll be able to override channels to on, off or back to auto from anywhere in the world. We’ve also included a NET module lock out on the head unit so you can secure your system when you need to from unwanted visitors.
On both the hardware and firmware level we’re redefining what a control system is. Digital Aquatics new 2.0 firmware for the ReefKeeper system offers complete integration of your system, across features, modules and hardware!

• Use alarms to trigger multiple events based on any input or output of your system.
• Set timers to control lighting, powerheads and dosing.
• Multiple Standby/service modes to do feedings and maintenance on your tank as well as other automated tasks.
• Night mode to trigger lunar simulation, change pump cycles, and display options.
• Storm mode to affect lighting and circulation.
• Advanced LED control for DIY (do it yourself,) and commercial LED lighting systems.
• Integration with battery backups, home automation, and even remote generator starting (with compatible generators).
• Control and monitor more than your tank, with new modules like the AP1 you can monitor humidity and temperature in your hood or fish room and control a vent fan for increased energy savings.
• Use the ReefKeepers inputs to integrate safety features such as overflow alarms, water leak indication and skimmer malfunctions. Get an email or txt message when something goes wrong.
The ReefKeeper and 2.0 go hand in hand to make your life easier, reduce your work load with your tank, and provide more options than ever before! You’ll be able to reduce energy usage, streamline tank operations, and spend more time enjoying your reef tank than working on it!

Firmware 2.0 will be compatible with all ReefKeeper Lites and ReefKeeper Elites and is required to connect your ReefKeeper to your PC and the new myReef application. Firmware 2.0 is a free firmware update from Digital Aquatics for your entire system.
The HerpKeeper is the most flexible controller on the market. This new modular approach gives you the freedom to mix and match, building the ideal control system for your needs.
